The Local Internet Archive or LIA was created to capture and extract online content for preservation. Originally, this project was designed to help pull down social media posts for preservation. For example, a friend would post a picture or video on their social media account that I wanted for my own records. If your friend closes their account, the image or video would be lost forever. With LIA, I was able to easily capture the online content with the click of a button. This functionality also proved useful for capturing online content from blogs, web sites and documents such as word docs, spreadsheets and PDFs.
As the data grew in volume and variability it became necessary to implement a search engine for finding old pictures or technical information related to ongoing projects. Full text search with Boolean search operators were implemented for querying the data. This provided a fast way to find what I was looking.
Why stop there… Eventually, tagging was added to helping categorize saved content. But, why stop there..
LIA now offers advanced keyword and annotation technology for finding correlated or related data across images, documents and web pages. LIA can readily be integrated with 3rd party technologies using its powerful plugin architecture and advanced discovery plugin services.
